| Dr. Jackal is back at the hospital
for his check-up after his contribution to urban renewal the previous
week.
Phantasm, aka John Clayton, is Christmas
shopping as John when he spots Zack Bently, and old
member of C.A.T. One wearing a particularly nasty explosive
backpack.
John lures him outside, skulks into an alley and takes him out. Pretending
Zack is drunk, John gets him to his car and drives to Hudson
Electronics, where Mist, as Sydney
Todd, is making the rounds with Dominic. Unable
to get Hudson techs to disarm the bomb, John leaves with Zack and shows
up at UNCLE as Phantasm.
Mist tries to follow, can’t, and turns back to Hudson, where
a nosy technician with good hearing tells her he overheard John call
UNCLE. Mist shows up as “Fingers” disarms the bomb, and
Phantasm curtly tells her to back off and let him do it, even though
Mist could probably do the job, too. Phantasm finds a note on cheeseburger
paper that lists Phantasm’s name an address, which he keeps.
Phantasm leaves, Mist goes out to take a taxi that rather conveniently
shows up. Rather inconveniently, it sprays knockout gas on her. So she
turns desolid and goes through the taxi. The taxi makes another pass
and misses, so it drives off into the night. Sgt. Cathy Gregario
finds a gold-trimmed card with “Hydrotrophic Shock” written
on it. Hmm.
At Samaritan Hospital, Jackal is getting checked out, Phantashia
is visiting with Tom Revere and John Revere,
and Mist wants to find out what “Hydrotrophic Shock” means.
Tom tells her about its application to bullet-proof vests – shock
waves in bodily fluid damage organs. And Mist is about as fluid as they
come.
Anyhow, the heroes decide to get radios since they seem to be fighting
the same fight anyhow. Down the hall a doctor is blown out the door
of Hacker’s room, and as the heroes arrive the
attacker fades out.
Careful questioning (“What happened?”) reveals that Radion
teleported out after grabbing Hacker’s disks, saying she was sorry,
and putting a hole in the floor to frighten the doc (he wasn’t
hit). The discs have access codes and a secret ID program. Luckily,
only Hacker has the password. And Mist. Oops.
Later that week, after Phantasm has purchased an old building next
to Taco Hut, Mist sees the scanners at Boeing-AOK
light up an area of intense cold – right near there.
The heroes respond, and Cold Warrior is standing
on Winchell’s singing “Frosty the Snowman”. Phantasm
and Dr. Jackal go in to fetch (rescue) cops, and Cold Warrior reveals
he did all this to lure Mist into a trap. Since the heroes are divided,
he attacks.
Cold Warrior turns Mist into an ice princess statue, and lifts her
high in the air, threatening to destroy her if the heroes didn’t
leave. The heroes try to play Raid on Entebe and he drops her, whipping
up a blinding snowstorm. By the skin of his teeth, inches from being
Hawaiian Ice, Phantasm catches Mist. The heroes attack in earnest, and
end up doing major damage to a Ross store, sending 22 people to the
hospital with assorted injuries.
Finally, after whacking at him all evening, the heroes bring down Cold
Warrior.
