Bree Rader First Appearance: Forte(Original Series) #254
(January, 1994) Bree Rader grew up never knowing that her estranged father, Mark Spires, was actually the Forte super-hero named Anvil. She knew only that he had left her and her mother, Kelly, but never knew that he had done it for their own protection. Ironically, in her early teens, she started up a secret friendship with Thunderbolt—the famed Justice Squadron founder and daughter of Superman and Mary Marvel—not knowing that she was already a part of this world by relation. Her father started trying to come back into her life about this time and mend their relationship. On one such trip of his to see her, Bree ended up a hostage and pawn—taken by anti-super and anti-alien Dr. Gabriel Freeman and the supervillainess Mindwarp—to draw Thunderbolt out and kill her. Anvil intervened, saving both his daughter and Thunderbolt, but managed to die himself in the process (though only briefly…). It was this day Bree found out her father was Anvil. Their relationship began to improve greatly, but tragedy struck her life when her mother was hit head-on in a car crash and ended up in a coma. Retiring from Forte, Mark Spires moved back to the Midwest to care for Bree full-time, and soon after, Kelly finally passed away. Bree grew to hate Thunderbolt for not being there to save her mother, and hate super-heroing in general. She recovered as best she could from losing her mother and graduated high school. She got accepted to Xavier, and Mark moved the family—which included his new wife, the private investigator Erin O’Day, whom Bree slowly began to accept—to Ohio. After graduating college and searching for her path in life, Bree chose to move to San Francisco with her father when he accepted an offer to join a new hero team called Forge. Bree knows all of the Forte members well, due to being part of the Forte extended family, and is loved by all of them. Now a young woman, she harbors a not-so-secret crush on Max, and is enjoying starting her new life in California. |
