Erin O'Day (-Spires) First Appearance: Forte (Original Series) #65
(April, 1989) An eccentric but devilishly talented private investigator with a penchant for getting into trouble, Erin O'Day came into Forte's lives when she was working out of a converted cannery in Seattle. Depending on who her client was at the time, she could either seem an ally or hindrance to Forte, and the team was never certain if they could trust her. But time and again her (and her pet monkey, Nick) seemed to cross the team's path. When she later began to grow close to Forte's Anvil, he kept her at bay for a long time, due to the long-standing trust issues with her. But eventually the two became an item, and when Anvil left Forte to move to the midwest to raise his daughter after his ex-wife's death, Erin chose to join him, and the two were married soon after. They eventually settled in Cincinnati, where Erin's once-thriving P.I. business saw lean times in this less-exciting metropolis. She and Anvil's daughter, Bree, had a rough time finding a bond, but eventually Bree accepted Erin into her and her father's lives, and the two became close (the pair of them once being on the run together, stalked by hired assassins, helped facilitate that). And Anvil eventually made peace with the monkey as well. When Mist showed up with a plea for Anvil to join her new hero team, the family (with some resistance) packed up and relocated to San Francisco, where Erin once more has started her P.I. firm anew, and finds herself in a city with an abundance of work and plenty of mortal danger...in other words, just the kind of thing she thrives on. And just like in her Seattle days, she has a hero team that she's either helping out or complicating things for, but this time she's doing it as part of the family. |
